Data used in this research is secondary data. Data analyzes tools used in this research is multiple regression model with the ordinary least square method in the form of natural logarithms and used the times series data during the period 1993-2007. Based on data processing, it can be obtained the determination coefficient (R2) of 0.806. It means that 80.6 percent of employment changes at the SMEs sector in the city of Semarang can be explained by variations in the number of business units, the value of the investment, the value of output and the city’s minimum wage, and the rest of 19.4 percent described by other variables outside the model. Overall, the number of business units, the value of the investment, the value of output and the city’s minimum wage had a significant effect on the employment changes in SMEs. Partially, the independent variables were also significant, except for the variable of output value. That variable did not significantly affect the absorption of labor at the SMEs sector. The variable that most affect the absorption of labor in the SMEs sector in the city of Semarang was the number of business units, while the variable of output value had the least affect among the other independent variables.

Abstract

The present study investigates the role of exchange rate and interest rate in stock price discovery inIndonesia.Indonesiais experiencing a kind of bubble which is indicated by surplus of current account accompanied by high capital inflow. Capital inflow simustaneusly influences exchange rate, and interest rate, and thus sequently affects stock prices. Employing cointegration approach and Engle Granger Error Corection Model (ECM), covering monthly time series data from January 2000 to April 2010, both short run and long run relationships are investigated. It is found out that there is cointegration relationship between stock price as dependent variable and  exchange rate  and interest rate, as independent variables. In the long run and in the short run, interest rate statisticaly significant negatively influences the stock prices. The impact of exchange rate on stock price is statistically significant, and changes in sign from negative in the short run effect to positive in the long run effect. In the long run, stock price is elastic to the changes in interest rate, and exchange rate. In the short run, the elasticity of stock price is decreasing in responding to the change in interest rate and exchange rate.

Abstract

Poverty is a serious problem, it’s happened in all the world, such as Indonesia. In September 2006, BPS announced that the poverty rate in Indonesiahad increased during the period February 2005 to march 2006 from 16.0 percent to 17.75 percent contrast to steady declines in the poverty rate since the crisis. Number of Poverty in Indonesiain 2006 have been reached 35,5 milion people. Government of Indonesiahas implemented programs to reduce poverty until village level. These programs such as IDT, PPK, BLT, etc. But, that programs just a short run programs, not long run programs. As long run program, P2KP has many programs, such as micro credits, infrastructure, and training. In Pepedan and Linggapura village implemented infrastructure programs. Its first priority programs because there many roads in that village are broken and disturbs local economic activities. BKM and KSM managed this program so that is success. Based on SWOT analysis, appropriate strategy to improve the function of P2KP is by intregrated horizontal strategy. It means, Local Government (Brebes Regency Goverment) must have policy strategic and must cooperation with BKM, KSM and people in village. Project evaluate (Inputs, Outputs, Outcames, Benefits, Impact) needs to know programs running.

Abstract

The existence of iron and steel industry occupy vital role in the development process and become strategically for the progress of a nation, because almost all metal equipment that are used by people made of steel. This research is aim to study structure and performance also competitive power of Indonesian national iron and steel industry that is below the note and not as firm as the name. This study endured by the way of literature research based from the primary data of BPS during the last five years that was since years 2004 until the beginning of year 2010. Based on the result of the research it is concluded that structure and performance of Indonesian iron and steel industry are still weak contradictive. The main reason that faced by this industry is the high import dependencies of raw material, especially at head steel industry. The low level of consumption per capita that at 33 kg per capita cannot be fulfilled by the level of national production that always under the level of the consumption, with the result that this lag must be fulfilled with import. The next consequence, national iron and industry are not become standalone and low at competition power, with the result that the problem of consumption that always be bigger than the production become more dependent at the condition of world iron and steel market. Because the lack of raw material, and the international price of raw material highly increased. In the other side, the chaos at the industry cannot be released from the uncertain policy of the government during the time, with the result that national iron and steel industry’s structure can’t stand alone and their competitive power are low. For that reason, investment policy to support this industry and local resource wielding are very strategic opportunity to build self-employment and performance of iron and steel industry competitive power including related industry and the lower atIndonesiarecently and the future.

Abstract

The wage have impacts on poverty, living standards and the incentive to improve labor productivity (human capital), in particular, for economic growth. Regional decentralization has implications, which, they must be developed regional endowment to get the efficiency in production process. So it is interesting to examine the importance of regional characteristics in the observed variability of regional wage in Indonesia. Based on this idea, the objective of this study is to examine the contribution of regional characteristics to the regional wage differential in Indonesia. Data supplied by the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics during 2003 – 2007. In this study used 3 model; Ordinary Least Square (OLS), Co-Varian Model and Generalized Least Squared (GLS). Then, the most effective model based on the smallest standard error was chosen to estimate regional characteristics in the observed variability of regional wage inIndonesia. The result showed that the regional characteristics, particularly skilled or unskilled labor, play an important role in determining the wage differentials in region. The empirical evidence presented that regional economic growth and the existing of high skilled labor in labor market have positive impact toward spatial wage. Then, skilled labor and unskilled will give negative influence in regional wage. The points out is laboring existence with level education or skilled level, despite not works or was working have influence toward the regional wage. Therefore, labors policy is expected gets focused on given specialization corresponds to that region characteristics.
